Sean and Kate were married this past October at Steele Hill Resort in Sanbornton, New Hampshire. When you think of a late October wedding up in the mountains of New Hampshire, you definitely don’t imagine the type of day these two were met with! With the sun shining, a blue sky, and temps in the 60s it was more perfect than they could have ever imagined. Add in the breathtaking mountain views full of foliage and you’ve got Sean and Kate’s ceremony location that stunned all their guests!
“…I had such a fun relationship with Sean and Kate.”
I adore all the couples I have the opportunity to work with, but I had such a fun relationship with Sean and Kate. These UNH grads were classmates and friends of Erika’s, one of my past ATP brides. At Erika and Keith’s wedding in 2016, I already knew I’d be shooting Kate and Sean’s wedding the following year, so it was fun having an extra opportunity to get to know them. Kate’s caring and outgoing personality immediately made me feel like we’d been friends for years! Her texts always made me laugh and she even found ways to make the routine questionnaires I have my couples fill out bring a smile to my face with her responses. I went up to NH last fall to shoot their engagement session and we started at Steele Hill where their ceremony would be. It was another great way to get to know these two and the strong relationship they have.
So by the time October 21, 2017 came, I felt like I was attending the wedding of two good friends of mine. There’s nothing that brings me greater joy than when I develop a close relationship with my couples and have the honor to tell the story of their first day as an official family.
“…I asked her to imagine the moment she was about to experience…”
A lot was happening the morning of the wedding that could have thrown many brides into a frustrated downward spiral, but Kate kept it all in perspective and was laughing, joking, and just so excited to marry Sean when I arrived to her room. After she was dressed and ready, while I snapped some bridal portraits of her, I asked her to imagine the moment she was about to experience—seeing Sean for the first time—and she immediately started tearing up. It was a beautifully emotional moment. And then we were off for the first look! Once they were ready, Sean and his guys toasted with some Andre, a joke gift from Kate as a nod to their college days, before heading out.
I wouldn’t have expected any less than for Kate to keep Sean laughing during the first look. They shared a special moment as Kate showed him the family heirlooms she had pinned to her stunning bouquet; a broach of her late grandmother’s, and a pendant with Sean’s baby picture on it that had belonged to his mother. Wedding details can be so much more than just “pretty things” and that is where you often see the true heart of couples shine through. And Sean and Kate have such big hearts.
“I almost lost it walking down the aisle!”
Sean arrived to the ceremony escorting his grandmother to her seat and his eyes lit up when he saw his beautiful bride being escorted down the aisle by her brothers. As Kate told me later, “I almost lost it walking down the aisle!” But after that the smile never left her face! Sean and Kate exchanged vows they had written themselves and tied a fisherman’s knot as a part of their ceremony as well. They laughed so hard as they struggled to get the knot to tie, but they did eventually succeed (a little metaphor for marriage maybe…?). The celebration began right after their first kiss as husband and wife as they danced their way back down the aisle.
It was a fun evening full of family and friends enjoying the celebration of the new Mr. and Mrs.! They played a version of the newlywed game which had all of the guests erupting in laughter! One of my favorite moments of the night was later on in the reception when Kate came to get me. She asked me if I’d come document a moment that they always wanted to remember and of course I was more than happy to! Kate took me out onto the front porch where she and Sean had stolen away for some moments alone. They were enjoying just a few quiet moments holding hands on the rocking chairs on the porch. I was so glad Kate came to get me so I could freeze this memory for them. Wedding days are often full of obligations and catching up with family and friends who you haven’t seen in a while that it’s common you barely have time with your new husband or wife! Definitely follow Sean and Kate’s example and make time for each other on your wedding day.
Sean and Kate just sent me photos from their recent honeymoon in Punta Cana and it looked like a blast! I’m so happy for you two and wish you many more moments of sitting side-by-side, enjoying each other’s company in the years to come!
