If you’re searching for a quintessential Newport, Rhode Island wedding, look no further than Katie and Chris’ big day! Chris and Katie were married in Newport back on June 2, 2018. These high school sweethearts are truly sweet as can be and I was honored to join them to document their first official day as a family.

Katie has five siblings and her oldest sister, and maid of honor, Caroline, told Katie and Chris’ story from the best point of view: that of teenage girls sharing a bedroom! In her toast, Caroline recalled the chats she and Katie would have in their twin beds at night. She clearly remembers Katie talking about meeting Chris and coming up with a plan (via the steps outlined inĀ Seventeen Magazine) to win him over. Katie heard Chris was running for class treasurer, so obviously, she decided to run for class president (and won)! The two of them got to know each other through student council and before long, Katie’s plan was in full swing and the two of them were dating. I guess the steps really worked, because here they were on their wedding day!

Chris and Katie give off such a contagious joy when they’re together; you can’t help but feel it! There was a buzz of excitement and happiness all day long, never once did I witness any of that “wedding stress” we so often associate with wedding days. Katie got ready at her family’s Newport home, a house filled with happy memories of time spent together in Newport. She has family members with houses on the neighboring streets and one of the best moments was her uncle giving Katie and her dad some last minute dance lessons out on the patio. The two fo them laughed and danced; Katie in her PJs and Dad fully dressed in his tux already! Once it was time to go to the church, the girls walked down the dead end street to meet the trolly. As I hung back snapping pictures of them holding her train and veil, Katie’s mom came up next to me and said, “There they go. It feels like just yesterday we were watching them ride their tricycles down this street.” It took everything in me not to melt into a puddle of tears…

On the trolly, Katie and her sisters told me about the slight obsession their family has with JFK–even celebrating his birthday when they were little–so it’s no surprise that Katie and Chris were married at St. Mary’s Church in Newport. This is the same church JFK and Jackie were married in back in 1953! It was a beautiful ceremony and the priest shared some words that Katie and Chris wrote to each other.

After the ceremony we headed over to the Eisenhower House for some formal photos. Chris and Katie have enjoyed many summers at this spot and it’s where Chris proposed a couple years ago as well! All week there had been threats of bad rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for their wedding day (I even went out and purchased some extra clear umbrellas for this large wedding party), but you’d never believe it with the gorgeous day they were met with!

Chris and Katie’s reception was held at The Bohlin which is such a fun location because your practically right down on the docks! It’s a stunning tent and Katie and Chris’ vision was brought to life beautifully by an incredibly talented team of vendors! It was an amazing celebration for such a wonderful couple! Their family and friends laughed and danced the night away, delighted for this sweet couple! Katie and Chris, wishing you many lovely years by each other’s side. Congratulations!
